- Yasovarman Chandella established the power of his clan at Kalinjar, the seat of Jejakabhukti kingdom in the ninth cen-tury. The Chandellas became independent of Kanauj in the first half of the 10th century. Ganda Chandella (999-1025) made com-mon cause with the Hindu Shahi ruler Anandpala against Mah-mud of Ghazni. He attacked Rajpala of Kanauj and killed him for surrendering before Mahmud. Mahmud forced Ganda to surrender Kalinjar to him in 1023. On Paramardi Deva's accession (1165), Chandellas got involved in a prolonged war with the Chahamanas of Ajmer-Delhi. Qutb al-Din Aibek put an end to Chandella power by defeating and killing Paramardi in 1202 when he occupied Kalinjar.
